We’re Adding A New Author Workshop: Ebook Formatting & Publishing
Share this post:
As many of you know from reading my blog, tweets and Facebook posts, I’m a strong advocate of ebook publishing. It may not be for every author and every genre, but I’m finding it to be an attractive option for many of my clients. I’ve also recently learned that two prominent Raleigh authors, Stacy Cochran and Elisa Lorello, have successfully sold tens of thousands of ebooks in the last few months. I’m seeing other positive ebook trends confirmed by traditionally published authors as well.
With the opportunities that ebook publishing provides for today’s author, in addition to the growing consumer acceptance of ebooks and ebook devices, it seemed like a no-brainer to add an ebook workshop to our current curriculum of publishing workshops. Elmore Hammes–author, publishing expert and editor extraordinaire (from my days at Lulu and now with PublishandSell)–will demonstrate how you can format and publish an ebook through sites like Amazon and Smashwords, which will then enable you to have your ebook available through almost every ebook reader out there, including the Kindle, the Nook, the Sony Reader, and yes–even the iPad.
Like our Createspace Publishing, Publishing Planning, and Facebook Optimization workshops, this new 2 hour online and call-in workshop will cost only $74.95. We’ll limit the number of attendees to 10 people so that everyone can have their question answered, and you’ll also receive the presentation materials and video of your online session in which Elmore actually formats and publishes an ebook in real-time.
Below is the formal description of the class, and I hope you find this new workshop helpful in your publishing efforts. We’ll be holding this class weekly (or as demand warrants), so just check out http://publishandsell.webex.com for the schedule and registration information. As always, don’t hesitate to email or call (919-247-1832) if you have any questions.
Publishing Workshop Description:
Ebook Formatting and Publishing (PS 204)
Ebooks are all the rave, and consumers are flocking to ebook devices such as the Kindle which make buying, reading and carrying around your favorite titles easier than ever.
Although the ebook phenomenon is causing concern and anxiety for the major publishers, it offers tremendous opportunities for you, the independent author. Ebook publishing is fast and fairly straight-forward, and is the quickest way to get your book in the hands of your (digital) readers. I personally know first-time authors that–to their surprise–are selling thousands of ebooks. If your genre or market is suited for digital books, then your title should be available in that format.
Presented by Elmore Hammes, author and self-publishing expert, this particular workshop is an overview of formatting and publishing for ebooks. Specific guidelines for formatting your manuscript for best display on ebook readers using Microsoft Word are demonstrated.
The two main publishing platforms are also discussed: Amazon’s site for publishing to their Kindle ebook reader and the Smashwords site for publishing in multiple formats for multiple sites and readers. We will go through the actual publishing steps for a Kindle edition, and also visit the Smashwords site to see how publishing and distribution is done there.
This workshop will be recorded so that you can view it again at your convenience. Workshop materials will also be made available.
