Self-Publishing Meetup Wednesday, May 5th- Pre-Publishing Activities and Decisions
As a follow-up to our last meetup about manuscript formatting, I’ll be hosting another Online Publishing Meetup this Wednesday on the subject of pre-publishing. As I’ve alluded to in some of my articles here at PublishandSell.com, there are critical activities and decisions that authors are faced with early in the self-publishing process. Not surprisingly, these initial choices can heavily influence the outcome of your publishing and marketing efforts.
On Wednesday I’ll be sharing some of my Author Questionnaires that I use with my clients, and we’ll dig deeper into the details of 1) when to educate yourself on these topics, and 2) when to look–and pay for–expert assistance. As I mentioned in March’s Four Self-Publishing Rules for New Authors article, many of us aren’t experts in publishing and marketing–nor do we wish to be. It’s important that you realize where your strengths and weaknesses lie well before you get your book out the door or you’ll be at a strategic disadvantage compared to other, more aggressive self-published authors.
Fortunately, however, this isn’t rocket science. I witnessed numerous–and often surprising–success stories at Lulu which convinced me that a good amount of persistence, preparation, research and education can make all the difference in the world.
I’m looking forward to seeing you Wednesday night! And if you can’t make it, just shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
Until next time–keep publishing!

The Publish Your Book Online!
Hi! my name is Henry Hutton, and I'd like to welcome you to my new website--PublishandSell.com. I'm one of the founding members of Lulu.com--the world's leading online publishing site, and served as their Online Community Director, Director of Operations and Customer Service, and Product Manager for their Lulu Studio online book-building tool. During my time at Lulu I helped hundreds of authors navigate the often confusing world of self-publishing. Not surprisingly, when we started Lulu in 2003 people referred to our free online publishing as a scam.
