I’ve been pretty impressed with Barnes and Noble’s new ebook publishing platform PubIt!, and have been in touch with several authors that feel the same way. I’ve also been relaying this feedback to the PubIt! team, and it’s exciting to see everything working so well right out of the gate. Believe me, my experiences at Lulu taught me to expect a few more hiccups–but so far so good!

That being said, even if you’re experienced with Amazon’s Kindle ebook publishing process you’ll still find some notable differences with PubIt!. Registration and account setup is different (B&N requires tax info upfront so that they can pay you royalties), ebook formats aren’t the same, you can switch off DRM (digital rights management), you can take advantage of their in-store programs, and the royalty commissions are a little bit different. None of this is bad at all, but it deviates a little from Kindle and Smashwords.
