Hi Phoenix, and thanks for the comment. I really can't blame ebook readers for rationalizing that ebooks should be lower cost than print (I do, anyway, coming from the print industry), but I agree that all books should be judged on the value of their content. In this case, if I was a Vince Flynn fan and wanted to read his new book I'd end up paying the $14.99 they're asking.

I find it amazing that because a book is electronic, it instantly releases the pricing from a value of $15.11, or whatever the price to $10, $15, $20 less than shelf price. eBook companies are even going so far as to only charge $.99 or $.79 etc...for a book that costs much more on the shelf. Is the electronic consumer forgetting the value of the content itself? How is it that paper & cardboard are the reasons a book is valuable?

Sure, more people than ever are reading because of electronic books & more books are being purchased - is it because of the price? The convenience? A combination of them both? Insisting on a lower price because paper isn't involved just doesn't make sense when it comes to the extreme pricing differences between hardcover & electronic. (hardcover indicating anything using pulp)

In the article discussed here - I agree, if the electronic market value is $14.99, its $14.99. Boycotting an author or publisher is extreme over a $2 price difference. I'd love to see more $ value added to electronic books because of content rather than see lower prices because a book is electronic.

I'm still not sold on these e-readers. There's a lot of good e-readers out there. How good can you really see in the dark? Don't you get glare with LCD screens? I tried to buy a Kindle yesterday but unfortunately they didn't have any. Thanks for showing us these issues.

Hi Jean, I can't think of any reputable self-publisher that will read your novel without you having to pay to have it published. That being said, there are self-publishing sites like Lulu.com and Createspace.com that enable you to publish your book essentially for free. Don't get me wrong, though-- you are still responsible for all the editing, cover art, formatting, etc, yourself. So it's no free lunch.

I helped start Lulu.com and witnessed thousands of authors achieve moderate success though this venue. It does take time, effort, research and perseverance to achieve your desired results--but it won't cost you a lot of money if that's your primary concern. I think you should give that a shot if you have the time and determination to make it happen.

I have 3 books published by a self publisher and they are going nowhere unless I pay, pay, pay. Two of them are on Amazon and Barnes & Noble internet...I also have a Childrens book directed towards disabled children...I have designed all book covers and drawings in the books. At this time I am working on a novel called The Clinton Terror about rape, murder and romance all joined together..I cannot afford to pay to have anymore books published..Could you direct me towards a publisher that would like to read my novel without expecting money up front...I am retired and living on social security and therefore have no other funds to persue my writing career. Thank you for any help you can direct my way.....

Henry Hutton has been instructing me on how to get my new novel STONEY BECK out to as many readers and prospective buyers as possible. He has this easy way of explaining that makes it seem like child's play. I'd advise anybody who is either self-published or already published and wants to learn more about FACEBOOK to take at least a couple of sessions with Henry. You won't be sorry, I guarantee it!!!! I know I'm not!!

Hi Jordan,

Good post although i just read it now but thanks for educating us. I have one question to you if there's any publishing entities that offer "publish your book to us and pay later"? financially i am broke and cannot afford any cent at the moment but i guarantee you my book has a potential market viability according to a certain acquisition manager of the traditional book publisher, (Co's name withheld). Kindly refer me to one. Thanks and God bless!
