I’ll Be Speaking at the Southern Entrepreneurship in the Arts Conference on Saturday, March 27th.
Today’s economic uncertainty has prompted many people–including myself–to “go out on their own” from a career perspective. It’s therefore no surprise that the term “entrepreneurship” is gaining a lot of attention these days. Whether you’ve lost your job or if you’re just now entering the workforce for the first time, self-employment might be the right path for you. It’s definitely challenging, but it can be liberating and rewarding as well.
That’s why I was honored to be asked by the North Carolina Entrepreneurship Center to be a speaker at their upcoming conference. This artist-led conference will present entrepreneurial strategies and resources for emerging artists to become self-supporting, and in turn help them transform their artistic passion into a successful career.

This obviously ties in closely with self-publishing, because as many of you know books are quickly becoming today’s business card. And all artists–whether they’re authors, poets, singers, musicians, painters, dancers, you name it–can benefit from a printed (or digital) representation of their services and skills. It’s time for us to put this new revolution in publishing to work!
In my morning session titled “Can You Sell Your Book” I’ll be speaking on the subject of self-publishing and marketing, because as we all know, self-publishing is relatively easy–it’s the marketing and selling that’s difficult. And, whether you’re an artist or technical consultant, your audience won’t come knocking on your door. It’s up to you to develop strategies to identify, find, interact with, market to and eventually sell to your specific market. It takes a good deal of planning and preparation, but it can be done.
As a matter of fact I see new authors achieving surprising success, and the new ebook phenomenon is becoming particularly rewarding. We’ll talk about all of that and more on Saturday, March 27th, at 10:30 am. Early registration for the conference has expired, but you can still register here. I, along with the other noteworthy speakers, look forward to seeing you!
Until next time–keep publishing!

Hi! my name is Henry Hutton, and I'd like to welcome you to my new website--PublishandSell.com. I'm one of the founding members of Lulu.com--the world's leading online publishing site, and served as their Online Community Director, Director of Operations and Customer Service, and Product Manager for their Lulu Studio online book-building tool. During my time at Lulu I helped hundreds of authors navigate the often confusing world of self-publishing. Not surprisingly, when we started Lulu in 2003 people referred to our free online publishing as a scam.
